They have a desperate need for a righthanded bat, in particular an OF/1B type. Johnson is a poor defensive everything, who might have a dead cat bounce left, but is unlikely to be more productive than Ty Kelly. Unless there is a miracle cure for Lagares’ thumb, the Nets have no righthanded hitting OF and they need two of them. A bizarre acquisition.
