From BP: Looking Back on Tomorrow – New York Mets

This week, Baseball Prospectus is wrapping up our season preview series … and today I have the Mets’ side of things. The conceit of these season previews is that we’re trying to figure out what the 2017 season will be remembered for; when it comes to the Mets it seems obvious that the remarkable, talented rotation will be what this team’s legacy will be. Of course, nothing is quite that simple.

“We’ll remember this season because of this rotation: either we’ll see a world-class collection of pitching talent for the ages or we’ll talk about how we still haven’t seen the Four Horsemen or Five Aces that we were once promised. Nothing short of sweeping the NL Cy Young finalists will ever be good enough to match the hype built up in our heads.”

From BP: Short Relief: Ty Kelly Cannot Advise You on the Subject of Rivers

Over at the Baseball Prospectus main site, Patrick Dubuque and company are rolling out a new daily collection of short posts “… concerned primarily with the aesthetic, the metaphorical, and the ridiculous aspects of baseball as an unproductive labor that induces such devotion and contentment.” Every weekday, expect a couple of quick hits on a variety of teams and topics.

Ty Kelly, muse to so many of us, stars in one of today’s posts by the incomparable Emma Baccellieri. It’s a lovely short read, it’s free to peruse on the main site, and it will give you absolutely no help when building your fantasy team or projecting the performance of the 2017 New York Mets.

In the future, you may even see a couple of your favorite BP Mets writers over at Short Relief at some point. Head down or up the river–who really knows?–and check it out.

From BP: Monday Morning Ten Pack – The Next Top 101 Prospects

Over at the Baseball Prospectus main site, there’s a snippet of Mets content for the die-hard prospect watchers. The BP prospect team breaks down 10 players who could pop up on the Top 101 next year, and that list includes Mets first-round pick Justin Dunn. Jarrett Seidler writes it up:

Honestly, Dunn would’ve fit in last week’s list of players who narrowly missed the 101 just as much as this week’s list. And on pure stuff, Dunn certainly belongs, with a plus fastball and the makings of a solid slider and change. Mostly a reliever at BC until midway through his junior season, the Mets were very careful with Dunn’s post-draft usage …

By now you probably heard the news: Yoenis Cespedes has re-signed with the Mets on a four-year, $110 million contract. Over at Baseball Prospectus, I broke the move down as best I could through the waves of jubilation and the shock that the Mets are finally acting like a big-market team again. It’s a brave new world, right?

Today’s a big day for us Mets fans: Baseball Prospectus has published the list of the team’s Top 10 prospects for the upcoming season. If you’re interested in who made the list, now’s a great time to subscribe to Baseball Prospectus and read this article. Our Jeffrey Paternostro–BP’s Lead Prospect Writer–writes up the team’s 10 best talents who still qualify as prospects, as well as a five more guys who are interesting for other reasons. If that’s not good enough, BP Mets’ Jarret Seidler covers the franchise’s top under-25 talent (including those guys in the majors), and Ben Carsley covers the fantasy potential for all the Top 10 guys.

It’s a wonderful feature, and BP will be rolling these out for all 30 teams over the course of the offseason. Seriously, check these out.
