Here we are, in a place I never expected to be. The Mets are again the class of the National League East (sorry, Nationals!), the vibe for 2016 is strangely hopeful, and today we’re launching a new site dedicated to smart, savvy coverage of New York’s second-favorite baseball team. Welcome to Baseball Prospectus – Mets!
BP Mets is designed to be a place for you to come and read about the team from the perspective you’d find over at the Baseball Prospectus main site. That means smart analysis, engaging writing, and wide-ranging coverage of everything Mets-related from game recaps to player profiles to team history. While we may not be breaking news here, we’d like to think that you’ll stop by the site when you want to think deeper about this team and baseball in general. (Or if you’d like to read long, rambling articles on appreciating Bartolo Colon and Yoenis Cespedes. We’ll probably have those too.)
This site is really the brainchild of our Managing Editor, Bret Sayre. Bret was kind enough to take on the task of building this whole thing, bringing on our outrageous list of contributors, and doing all the little-seen, much-loved stuff behind the scenes to keep the trains running on time. Bret is also the Managing Editor of BaseballProspectus.com, founder of The Dynasty Guru, and a great human being.
Our list of regular columnists is wonderful. Each of them is enormously talented, and brings a different viewpoint to the table. Whether it’s stats, reporting from the field, opinion pieces, or just really tight and wonderful prose, we hope to have something great for everyone. Our regular lineup includes:
- Erik Malinowski
- Sara Novic
- Jarrett Seidler
- J.D. Sussman
- Mike Vorkunov
We’re very, very fortunate to have each and every one of them here at BP – Mets.
Our Lead Prospect Analyst is Toby Hyde, whose work at the Mets Minor League Blog and previous locations is basically the gold standard in Mets prospect reporting. He’ll be joined on occasion by Baseball Prospectus Senior Prospect Analyst Jeffrey Paternostro (the other gold standard for Mets prospects) and Jarrett Seidler to keep us fully engaged with the next generation of Mets.
Steve Schreiber will be our Social Media Director, which I think means he’ll continue to send MS Paint Twitter avatars to current Mets players. Other than that, I have no idea what he’ll be doing, but he’ll do it very well. (Check out our Twitter and Facebook!)
We will be publishing daily recaps of every 2016 regular-season baseball game. Naturally, we’ll need a talented team of contributors and game recappers to bring those to you (as well as an exceptional recap-specific editor). This team includes:
- Spencer Bingol
- Shawn Brody
- Brian Duricy
- Eric Garcia-McKinley
- Noah Grand
- Andrew Mearns
- Scott D. Simon
- Lukas Vlahos
(If we’re lucky, you may get a few postseason recaps as well. Ya gotta believe!) These contributors will also be contributing features from time to time.
And of course, we’ll have a few terrific occasional contributors stopping by: Metsblog’s Maggie Wiggin, Rotoworld’s D.J. Short, analyst Craig Glaser, and so much more to come.
We hope that you join us for this ride, whether it takes us back to the World Series or just to a quiet end in September. No matter what, we’re going to have a lot of fun along the way. Let’s go Mets!
–Bryan Grosnick (Editor-in-Chief, Baseball Prospectus – Mets)
(P.S. Many thanks to the staff at BP, including but not limited to Jim Walsh, Rob McQuown, Sam Miller, and the rest of the BP Locals staff. We, quite literally, would not be here if not for you.)
